Brian Cashman Thinks You're Abusive

Everyone seems to agree nowadays that the Mets have taken over as the laughing stock of Major League Baseball.

So much so that Yankees GM, Brian Cashman, decided the media needed to know how he felt about the ways the Mets use their players.

According to an article on ESPN New York's website, Cashman felt that the Mets overused left handed reliever, Pedro Feliciano, who recently inked a 2-year deal with the Yankees, with a club option for the 2013 season.

Free agent acquisition, Pedro Feliciano, won't be making his
pinstripe debut for a couple weeks, as he's on the 15-day
disabled list due to a strained left rotator cuff.
Cashman was quoted as saying, "He was abused. It's a thin market when you're looking for lefties, and he's one of the better ones out there. But you don't typically go after a guy who's been used like that. The use pattern was abusive."

In response to the GM's comments, Mets pitching coach, Dave Warthen, says he is not an abuser. Though the stats show differently (Feliciano lead the Mets in appearances for 3 straight years) Warthen swears that Feliciano willingly pitched when called upon. Warthen goes on to add, ""I feel badly that [Cashman] feels that way. That was part of the reason we decided to not re-sign [Feliciano] -- because we knew we had used him 270-some times in the last three years."

As if this organization didn't have enough problems already. Having your pitching coach come out and say that they don't feel like they overused one of their relievers, but then openly admit that they didn't resign him because of how much he was used, is embarrassing. Not only did Feliciano lead the majors in appearances for the last three years, but Feliciano also had 344 relief appearances since 2007, a major league record for a four year stretch. Why would anyone ever want to play for their organization after that?

When your teams payroll is over $140 million (4th highest behind the Yankees, Phillies and Red Sox), and the most you end up producing is 4th place in your own division, you're just proving how worthless your franchise is.

Even though the last thing on Mets GM Sandy Alderson's mind is what Dave Warthen has to say, maybe he should take note: not only does the roster need to be rebuilt, but the staff should be seriously scrutinized if he ever wants to bring another championship to Queens.
